Lead PHP Full-Stack Developer

We’re looking for a Full Stack Developer who genuinely loves coding. Someone who masters Laravel and React, writes clean, maintainable code, and understands object-oriented PHP and modern JavaScript. You should be able to dive into large codebases, understand how data flows, map business logic to the code, and explain it clearly — no BS.

Salary: £35000 - £50000
Location: sheffield
Type: Full-time

At awesome., you’ll work on projects that matter — building websites, apps, and tools for clients ranging from global brands to public sector partners. You’ll need to learn new technologies as needed, take ownership of your work, and collaborate effectively without hand-holding.

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Build modern web apps using Laravel and React
  • “Just give me a laptop and a text editor, and I’ll code something amazing.”
  • Can read and map complex systems, including data handling and business processes
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Are passionate about software craftsmanship, best practices, and continuous learning
  • Take ownership, know when to ask for help, and collaborate with your team

Skills you need:

  • PHP and JavaScript with strong OOP skills, able to write maintainable, well-architected code
  • Strong experience building modern web apps with Laravel and React
  • Ability to create secure, robust APIs (Laravel Passport / OAuth2 concepts understood)
  • Can take a Figma design and turn it into a polished, performant, animated front-end
  • Writes clean, maintainable CSS using Sass and BEM (or similar scalable approaches)
  • Understands (or is actively learning) accessibility standards and how to implement them properly
  • Comfortable deploying and managing servers with Laravel Forge and Envoyer
  • Knows their way around a Ubuntu server via the command line — not afraid of SSH
  • Confident with Git, branching, PRs, and reviewing code
  • Experience with MySQL and Redis in real production environments
  • Can work with designers, strategists, and content teams without ego
  • Bonus: leadership instincts, someone who could eventually help shape and grow the dev team
